Growing Mental Wellness Event

Host a two-hour event including all ages and invite your community to grow in mental
wellness together. Share an hour-long meal together, then break into age-based groups
for respective and age-appropriate programming for the next hour.

·      For younger children, plan an “OK to Feel” story and playtime featuring emotional and
social books, tactile teaching toys and activities.
·      For elementary-aged children, art therapy for all and a separate parent class on how
to bring creative therapy home for improved family communication and decompression
led by art and pediatric therapists.
·      For the youth-group age, plan a riveting and knowledgeable speaker. For example,
this church is planning a talk from John Trautwein, a former pitcher for the Boston Red
Sox and now head of the “Will to Live” foundation he started in memory of his oldest son
who died by suicide his freshman year of high school. He speaks about Delivering the
Power of Hope for peers to use mutual trust, strength and understanding.
·      For adults who aren’t attending a program with or for their children, invite a well-
spoken mental health medical professional to speak about mental health issues,
perspectives and treatments.
